Monica Rezman

b. 1958

Monica Rezman is a veteran Chicago artist who has recently moved to Merida, the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatan. She writes of these paintings: "This body of work entitled 'Hair Pieces' comes from two sources: The memory of growing up in the 1970’s and watching my mother pile on her hairpieces, creating a fountain of forms and shapes on her head, and my young daughter experimenting with female adornment. Using a very traditional form of painting techniques, I attempt to explore the subtleties, richness, and mystery that these hair creations hold for me. Through paint I am able to create situations and express emotions that may not be easily communicated in daily life."
